#OneGameAMonth is on hold

As we’re transitioning to making Not a Clone into a full remake on the mobile, it’s becoming clear that a substantial amount of time and focus is necessary to complete the game. Unfortunately, this means that we will have to put the regular #OneGameAMonth on hold until the project is done. So what does this mean?

First off, there will be no changes to the Patreon campaign, since it charges only when a game is posted. Since no experimental free games will be posted for a while, rest assured that those who signed up to donate will not be charged during development. In the rare case that a new game does get posted (and it will, see below), it’ll be posted and charged like any other #OneGameAMonth games.

Second, because #OneGameAMonth is on hold, doesn’t mean there won’t be more experimental free games coming up. It will simply happen less regularly. For example, Ludum Dare is coming up next month, and we do plan on participating on it.

Thanks for all the support you’ve all been giving to us. We’ll post our progress with the game soon, so stay tuned.

Letters From Secret Santa Public Release!

Originally an Indies Need Booze patrons‘ exclusive game, Letters From Secret Santa is now released publicly for free! Check it out in these web portals below:

Along with the public release of Letters From Secret Santa, some of the artworks used in the game are released as well, to respect the Creative Commons Share-Alike license. The artworks are only slightly modified from the Jimmy Jump Pack by 1001.com, but it should come to use for those who use Unity game engine like me. Happy holidays from the entire Omiya Games team! We’ve made a few changes to the homepage that we hope you’ll like.

  1. We got rid of the annoying Patreon slider, and replaced it with the much less annoying button on the sidebar
  2. Slightly re-organized the sidebar
  3. Brought back the side bar in the Games and Contact Us page
  4. We didn’t mention this earlier, but we replaced the weird image gallery in Games to Itch.io widgets
  5. Added links to web portals under the Games menu item under the header
  6. Moved the Press-Kit link under Contact Us menu item under the header.

Indies Need Booze exclusive: Letters From Secret Santa

Hey, guys. We’ve partnered with Indies Need Booze to create a game for patrons called Letters From Secret Santa. It’s an adorable game about a small boy’s interpretation of letters from Secret Santa. The platformer uses handwritten words as platforms, allowing our hero to jump from one sentence to another.

What’s next? This month’s schedule.

So now that Prototype: Murakami has unfortunately been delayed, what’s next? Well, we have a ton of stuff coming, and we think a little transparency is in order. Here are all the big events going on at Omiya Games:

First, a Pie for Breakfast game called Dead Man’s Trail is going to be submitted for Indies in the Middle at Smithsonian in DC. And naturally, we’re giving as much help as we can for the project to meet the live-judging deadline. We’ll keep you up to date on how that goes.

Second, we’re collaborating with Indies Need Booze to create next month’s free game for them. Jacob, the organizer, has been incredibly supportive of our games, and it’s only fair we return the favor. We’ll have more about that in the coming few weeks.

With two projects going on at once, we won’t have the time complete a game for November’s #OneGameAMonth. What does this mean to the Patreon donors? Good news! Donors will not be charged this month. The campaign is setup so that donors are charged only when a game is out, so this month, they get a break and keep those precious dollars for holiday shopping.

Lastly, this leaves December. We’ll be helping Tech Valley Game Space to organize Ludum Dare, the world’s largest online game jam, in the Troy, NY. This major event will take up the majority of December, since even after the 72-hour development period, there’s still a 3 week period of voting. We’ll probably do a lot of live streams playing other people’s games, so stay tuned about that.

In the meantime, we have updated Suddenly, Thousands to fix several bugs, including the camera being obstructed by walls all the time. Expect an update on all the web portals soon.

About those “Members only” posts…

Hey, guys! You may have noticed that a few posts in this blogs appears as private, requiring a login to view. This has been something I’ve been working on for a while, and I think it’s time to open the covers. Long story short, I’ve been working hard to create a controlled environment for playtesting. Every hidden posts are alpha builds of games I’m working on. They’re generated by Jenkins, a server that automatically creates a game build and uploads the generated webplayer to this site. So, good news, you’re not missing out on any news, and you’ll still see games from me in finalized form.

As of right now, I’m working with people I know to make sure this system is stable. In the near future, though, I’ll be opening a new tier on Patreon to allow others to have early access to my games as well. For those interested, stay tuned…
